02 · Why switch
Why people look for a Rocket Money alternative
Rocket Money calls itself “the money app that works for you”, and its best-known features are subscription cancellation and bill negotiation. People usually look for an alternative when their goal shifts from trimming bills to building wealth:
You have cut the obvious costs and want a plan
Cancelling subscriptions is a one-time win. What compounds is a savings rate you keep up for years. FIYR shows how your spending and saving today move the date you reach financial independence.
One clear price
Rocket Money’s Premium price is chosen on a sliding scale and can vary by platform, Premium+ is a separate tier, and bill negotiation carries its own fee of 35% to 60% of the first year’s savings when it succeeds (no added fee on Premium+). FIYR is $8 a month or $76.80 a year, with every feature included.
Net worth that includes everything
Rocket Money tracks assets and debts on Premium. FIYR tracks linked accounts plus manual assets such as your home, vehicles and crypto, and feeds the total into your FIRE date.
03 · The honest part
When Rocket Money is the better choice
Rocket Money does some things FIYR does not try to do. It is the better choice if:
- You want someone to cancel subscriptions for you. Rocket Money can cancel unwanted services on your behalf. FIYR finds recurring charges but you cancel them yourself.
- You want your bills negotiated. Rocket Money negotiates bills for a share of the savings. FIYR has no bill negotiation.
- You want your credit score in the same app. Rocket Money Premium includes an Experian credit score and report. FIYR does not track credit.
- You want a free option. Rocket Money has a free plan. FIYR is paid after the 30-day trial.
- You want a native phone app. Rocket Money has iOS and Android apps. FIYR runs in the browser.

How to switch from Rocket Money to FIYR
Rocket Money exports transactions as CSV. The file is emailed to you and downloads on desktop.
- Export from Rocket Money. Request a transaction export from the Rocket Money app or website, then download the CSV from the email on a computer.
- Start a FIYR trial and link your accounts. Accounts connect through Plaid. FIYR asks for up to two years of transaction history; how much arrives depends on your bank.
- Import only the older history. In Transactions, open the ⋯ menu and choose Import CSV. Map the date, name, amount and category columns, then match each old category to a FIYR one. Trim the file to dates before your linked history starts, or the overlap will show up twice. Amounts must be plain numbers, and FIYR treats positive amounts as spending and negative amounts as money coming in, so flip the sign on a column that uses the opposite convention.
- Set up categories and rules. Rules recategorize new transactions automatically, so the cleanup you do once keeps paying off.
- Add what Plaid can’t see. Enter your home, vehicles, crypto and any loans as manual assets and liabilities so your net worth is complete. Then open the FIRE view to see the date your real numbers point to.
Before you cancel Rocket Money, note any subscriptions it is tracking. FIYR’s recurring view finds them again from your transactions once your accounts are linked.
