Add a transaction by hand
Click Add Transaction (+ Add on a phone), enter the date, name, amount and category, and save. Use a positive amount for a purchase and a negative one for money in.
Use this for cash purchases, a payment your bank has not sent yet, or anything FIYR cannot see. For a whole account FIYR cannot link, see Track an account FIYR can't link. For many rows at once, see Import transactions from a CSV file.
- Click Add Transaction above the list (+ Add on a phone). A New transaction card opens.
- Fill in Date, Name (for example "Trader Joe's"), Amount and Category.
- Click Add Transaction. Cancel or ✕ closes the card without saving.
Purchase or income?
Enter 40 for a $40 purchase. Enter -40 for $40 you received (cash for a sold bike, a payment from a friend). Money in shows in green with a plus sign.
What happens when you save
- Your transaction rules run first, so a rule can rename or recategorize it as it is saved.
- It has no account, so the Account: filter lists it under Unknown Account, and the Manually Created filter finds it.
- It counts toward spending, income, budgets and charts like any other transaction.
Common questions
How do I record cash income?
Add a transaction with a negative amount, for example -200, and pick an Income category.
Do rules apply to transactions I add by hand?
Yes. FIYR runs your rules on the transaction before it is saved.
How do I find the transactions I added myself?
On a computer, open Filter and tick Manually Created.
