The Transactions page
The Transactions page lists every transaction FIYR has loaded, newest first, with this month's spending, a chart and your stats above it. The date buttons change the chart and the numbers, not the list.
Open Transactions in the sidebar. On a phone it is one of the tabs at the bottom of the screen (if you removed it from your tabs, it is on the More page).
What is on the page
- Safe to Spend
- Your balance minus what your goals need, with Balance and Goals underneath. See Safe to Spend.
- <Month> Spending
- What you have spent so far this month, with a comparison to last month under it.
- Spending chart
- A running total of spending over the selected range, with the date buttons under it.
- Transaction list
- Every loaded transaction, grouped by day. The toolbar above it has search, Add Transaction, Filter and Edit Multiple.
- Right column
- A category donut (click a slice to open that category), the Daily Burn Rate card and the Stats panel: Spending, Income, Cash Flow, savings rate and transaction counts.
Spending $677.41 = $1,077.41 of charges − $400.00 in Savings categories. Income $3,282.99 is every incoming amount, refunds included. 2 ignored transactions left out of both.
Reading a row
| You see | What it means |
|---|---|
| Date row, Oct 14 and a red figure | The day, and that day's spending: positive amounts only, ignored transactions left out. |
| $45.00 in normal text | Money out (a purchase or bill). |
| +$1,200.00 in green | Money in: a paycheck, refund, credit or incoming transfer. |
| Name in faint italics | A pending transaction your bank has not posted yet. |
| A small green $3.90 tip chip | The charge posted for more than it was authorized for, usually a tip. Hover it for both amounts. |
| Row with a red outline | The transaction has the built-in review label. |
| Row faded to 30% | The transaction has the ignore label and is left out of every total. |
| ↻ before the name | The transaction is linked to a recurring bill or income. See Recurring bills and income. |
Between the name and the category are three narrow columns: 🏷️ labels, 🎯 goal and 💳 account (plus 👥 owner if your profile includes a spouse). Click a column's emoji header to widen it and see or edit what is in it.
Date ranges change the chart, not the list
The buttons under the chart (1W, the previous month, M, 30, 60, 90, YTD, 1Y, ALL) set the period for the chart, the headline figures and the Stats panel. M (this month) is the default. The previous-month button opens a list of earlier months.
The list itself always shows every loaded transaction, newest first, 60 at a time. Scroll to load more. To narrow the list to certain dates, use Filter and set From Date and To Date (see Search and filter transactions).
On a phone
- Tabs under the chart switch between Transactions, Breakdown, Burn rate and Stats. Only one shows at a time.
- A strip of the last 7 days sits above the list. Tap a day to show only that day, and tap it again to show everything.
- Tap any row to open the edit sheet (name, date, amount, category, labels, recurring, goal, split, delete). See Edit a transaction.
- Search and + Add are available. Filter, Edit Multiple and the ⋯ tools menu (Create Rule, Export CSV, Import CSV, Review) are on the computer version only.
The tools menu
On a computer, the ⋯ button next to the date buttons holds Create Rule, Export CSV, Import CSV and Review. See Transaction rules, Export your transactions, Import transactions from a CSV file and Review transactions.
Common questions
Why does the list show older transactions than the range I picked?
The date buttons control the chart, the headline figures and the Stats panel. The list always shows everything loaded. Use Filter with From Date and To Date on a computer, or the 7-day strip on a phone, to narrow the list.
Why is an amount green with a plus sign?
Green with + means money came in: income, a refund, a credit or an incoming transfer. Spending shows without a sign in the normal text color.
Why is a row faded?
It has the ignore label, so it is left out of spending, income, budgets and charts. It stays in the list so you can still find it.
How far back does the list go?
The last 3 years by default. Turn on Load All Transactions in Settings > Preferences to load everything.
