How and when transactions sync

There is no schedule and no refresh button. When your bank has new activity, it tells Plaid, and FIYR pulls it in straight away. New transactions and balances appear in the app without reloading.

How a sync happens

  1. Your bank reports new or changed activity to Plaid.
  2. Plaid lets FIYR know, and FIYR fetches everything that changed since the last sync.
  3. New transactions are added and categorized (your rules run on them), pending ones are updated when they post, and ones the bank removed are deleted.
  4. Balances on Linked Accounts and Net Worth are refreshed.
  5. Any FIYR page you have open updates on its own.

How often this happens depends on your bank. Some report several times a day, others less often. FIYR has no control over the timing and cannot ask your bank to report sooner.

Pending transactions

Card purchases often appear first as pending. When your bank posts them, FIYR marks the transaction as posted and updates it to the final amount (a restaurant tip, for example), keeping your category, name and labels. You do not need to do anything. See Pending transactions and refunds.

Your first sync

Right after you link a bank, the most recent transactions come in first, usually within a minute or two. Older history follows, which can take a while for accounts with a lot of it. Everything keeps arriving in the background, so you can carry on using FIYR.

How much history you see

To keep the app fast, FIYR loads the last 3 years of transactions when you sign in. To see older ones, turn on Load All Transactions in Settings > Preferences. It stays on until you sign out.

What does not sync

  • Accounts you added by hand (a home, a car, crypto, a private loan). You update those yourself. See Track an account FIYR can't link.
  • Transactions you imported from a CSV file, or added with Add Transaction.

When new transactions stop arriving

  1. Wait a day. Some banks only report once a day, and pending purchases can take a few days to post.
  2. Check the Alerts bell and Settings > Linked Accounts. A notice saying needs reconnecting or expires in N days means your bank ended or is about to end FIYR's access.
  3. Click Reconnect on that notice and sign in to your bank. See Fix a connection that needs reconnecting.
  4. If everything looks healthy and a transaction is still missing after a few days, email support@fiyr.app with the bank name and the date and amount.

Common questions

Can I force FIYR to refresh?

No. Syncing is driven by your bank through Plaid, so new data arrives when your bank reports it. There is no manual refresh.

Do I need to keep FIYR open for it to sync?

No. Syncing happens on our side whether or not you are signed in. Everything is waiting the next time you open the app.

Why is a transaction from today missing?

Your bank may not have reported it yet. Pending card purchases usually appear within a day, and update to posted on their own.

Will a sync undo my edits?

No. Your category, name and label edits are kept, including when a pending transaction posts. Only the amount changes, to the final amount your bank settled. See Pending transactions and refunds.
