Fix a connection that needs reconnecting

When a bank ends FIYR's access, new transactions stop arriving. Click Reconnect on the notice in Settings > Linked Accounts and sign in to your bank again. It repairs the same connection, so your history stays and nothing is duplicated.

Why connections need reconnecting

Banks end access from time to time: after a password change, when you add new security steps, when a card is closed or replaced, or when the access period they granted runs out. FIYR tells you as soon as it knows.

Where you will see it

  • A notice at the top of Settings > Linked Accounts, with a Reconnect button.
  • An alert in the Alerts bell, such as "🔌 Citi ••8040 needs reconnecting". Clicking it opens Linked Accounts.
  • A count badge on Linked Accounts in the Settings menu.
  • A push notification, if you turned them on. See Push notifications.

What each notice means

NoticeDotWhat to do
{Bank} needs reconnectingRedThe bank ended the connection and new transactions are not coming in. Reconnect now.
{Bank} expires in N daysAmberThe bank grants access for a fixed period and it ends within 14 days. Reconnect early and nothing is interrupted.
{Bank} had a connection problemGreyUsually a temporary problem at the bank, such as an outage. It often clears on its own. If it is still there after a day or two, try Reconnect.

If the notice says the bank is no longer sharing these accounts, a card was most likely closed or replaced. Reconnect to choose the accounts again, or unlink the connection if you no longer use it.

Reconnect

  1. Open Settings > Linked Accounts, or click the alert in the Alerts bell.
  2. Find the notice and check which accounts it lists (name and last four digits).
  3. Click Reconnect. The button says "Opening…" while the Plaid window loads.
  4. Sign in to your bank with the same login you used when you first linked these accounts, and finish any security check.
  5. When Plaid closes, the notice, the alert and the Settings badge clear. New transactions start arriving again with the next sync.
Citi needs reconnecting
Your bank ended the connection, so new transactions aren't coming in. Reconnecting takes a moment and keeps your history.

Click Reconnect on the Citi notice to see what clears afterwards.

If Reconnect does not work

"This connection was made with a different {Bank} login..."
You have more than one login at that bank. Sign in with the one that sees the accounts listed on the notice. If you no longer use that login, unlink this connection and link the accounts again.
"Couldn't open the bank sign-in. Reload the page and try again."
Reload the page, then click Reconnect again.
"This connection could not be found. Unlink it and link the accounts again."
Use Unlink on that bank, then link it fresh. See Unlink a bank.
A message from your bank
Follow what it says (for example, a locked account). If it keeps failing, email support@fiyr.app.

If you add a brand-new card at the same bank, link it with + LINK ACCOUNT rather than during Reconnect, and in the Plaid window share only the new card so your existing accounts are not linked a second time. If a replacement card does not show up after reconnecting, email support@fiyr.app and we will sort it out.

Common questions

Will I lose my transactions or edits?

No. Reconnecting repairs the same connection, so your history, categories and edits all stay.

Will the missed transactions come in?

Yes, as long as your bank still has them. They arrive with the next sync after you reconnect.

Why do I have to keep reconnecting the same bank?

Some banks grant access for a fixed period, or end it after a password change. FIYR warns you before an expiry so you can renew in advance.

The alert went away but I never reconnected.

If the bank fixed the problem on its side, the connection is healthy again and the alert clears by itself.
